Former Special Forces Commander’s New Mission:

Lead SOTF’s Growth to Serve More Special Operations Veterans Nationwide

Your Grateful Nation, DBA Special Operators Transition Foundation, is pleased to announce retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Tommy Stoner has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and assumes responsibilities effective April 1, 2020. As a YGN alumni and active mentor to YGN Fellows, Stoner has unique experience that will take SOTF to the next level. He succeeds Robert Kirila, who helped build the brand into the market leader in the not-for-profit sector dedicated to transitioning Special Operations Veterans into leadership positions in the public and private sectors.

In a recent interview, Tommy Stoner expressed his thoughts, “It is an honor and privilege to lead the Special Operator Transition Foundation (SOTF), formerly Your Grateful Nation. I have a deep connection to the organization and mission, as Your Grateful Nation was critical to my successful transition to a corporate career in 2016 after nearly three decades of service in the Special Operations community. I look forward to using my alumni and corporate experience to further expand awareness and appreciation of the immense value our Nation’s Special Operations veterans can bring to the business and not-for-profit sectors. SOTF/YGN has placed nearly 200 Special Operations veterans into successful careers post-service transition over the last several years, and I’m excited to build on that exceptional record of success achieved by Rob Kirila and the team.”

Tommy Stoner is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and former Battalion Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group. Prior to accepting this position, Tommy was a Senior Vice President in the technology division of the Truist Bank. He last served as the technology integration oversight lead for the merger efforts that formed from Sun Trust and BB&T banks. Tommy also served as the lead in the SunTrust veterans readiness group and is a former board member of Your Grateful Nation.

Don Crosby, Chairman of the Board of SOTF said, “In all organizations it is critically important to have a succession plan so that leadership doesn’t miss a beat. To that end, I am extremely happy to have Tommy Stoner assume the position of CEO of SOTF. Tommy went through our program and then went onto Sun Trust where he made a tremendous impact on their company. He is the right person to lead SOTF through these critical times. We want to also recognize Rob Kirila for his significant contributions to SOTF during the last three years. Rob assumed the position in challenging times and through his devotion and hard work has taken SOTF to a level that we are extremely proud of. We look forward to Rob’s continued involvement and wish he and his family all the best in their future endeavors.”
