Appointments expand nonprofit Board to ten Directors
Reston, VA – Your Grateful Nation (YGN), a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to assisting Special Operations Forces veterans transition out of the military into a new career in corporate America, announced today the appointment of four new members to their Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Joining the Board is Dennis Hayashi of HR Pilots, Tommy Stoner of SunTrust, Peter Strauss of the Strauss Law Firm, and Mark Whaling of Canaccord Genuity. A veteran himself, Dennis Hayashi brings more than 34 years of experience in strategic planning, leadership and recruiting to YGN. He founded the strategic communications agency, Media Options, Inc., the predecessor to his current company, aHa Communications, where he serves as Chief Creative Officer.He is also a Senior Consultant for Chicago-based HR Pilots, a national executive leadership search firm, leading officer-level searches in areas such as Communications, Global HR, Government Relations, and Engineering. Dennis has consulted on and directed a wide variety of alternative communications initiatives for Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and business associations, such as McDonald’s Corp., State Farm Insurance, AT&T, American Dietetic Association, Freddie Mac, Proctor and Gamble, Citibank, John Deere, National Council for Adoption, and The Quaker Oats Company. Dennis graduated from Missouri University’s School of Journalism.Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Tommy Stoner
Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Tommy Stoner transitioned to corporate America as a YGN candidate after 28 years of active military service. Now an alumnus, and currently serving as the Enterprise Data Office Business Intelligence Portfolio Manager for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, Tommy joined the board to help steward the men who are following his footsteps and transitioning out of the military and into a world of unfamiliarity.

Tommy entered the military at 17 as an enlisted soldier. He began his officer career after completing a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Auburn University, taking an Army commission as an infantry officer. He has held several positions including serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, the 75th Ranger Regiment and the Army Special Forces.

Peter Strauss, J.D., LL.M.
Peter Strauss is the Founder and Managing Member of The Strauss Law Firm, LLC, located on Hilton Head Island, SC. His firm is devoted to providing estate and tax planning, asset protection, international business, and primarily, captive insurance solutions to individuals, families, and business owners located both in the U.S. and internationally.

He is also the Founder and CEO of Hamilton Captive Management, the largest Captive Management Firm. Peter has authored three books, “The Physician’s Guide to Captive Insurance Companies”, “Captive Insurance Companies for the Small Business Owner”, and “The Definitive Guide to Captive Insurance Companies”, which is currently ranked number one on Amazon.com for insurance related books. Peter is a graduate of the New England School of Law, and holds an LL.M in Estate Planning from the University of Miami.

Mark Whaling
As the Global Head of Sales and Trading for Cannaccord Genuity, formally Collins Stewart, LLC, Mark is responsible for oversight of institutional sales and trading, fixed income and all other non-equity sales and trading operations. Prior to his current role, Mark was named Head of US Equity Research and Sales before being promoted to Head of Equities in September of 2010. In March of 2011, Mark was promoted to President of Collins Sterwart, LLC and Head of US Securities. Mark holds a B.A. from Princeton University.
